One again the hugely popular Enzed V8 Utes Championship will once again be a headline act and judging by the action seen in last season's meeting, the large crowd anticipated can expect to see some top quality on-track action. Three races are scheduled for Round 2 of the V8 Utes but they will not be the only class of racing providing the thrills for the large crowd expected.
The weekend's scene stealers are sure to be to be the 'big banger' saloon cars in the GT1 and GT2, Muscle Cars and NZGT races while big fields will also line up for the ultra competitive Kumho Tyres Pre 65 saloons, Super Mini Challenge and Bridgestone Porsche Series.
Single-seater racing will again be represented by the Weldwell New Zealand Formula First Championship cars where some of tomorrow's racing stars are establishing their motor racing careers. The NZ Racing Saloons will also see their usual combination of Holden HQ and Super 6 saloon cars while the Toyo Tyres Pro-7 Racing Series will again feature prominently.
A large variety of cars will take to the track for the GT1, GT2 and NZGT categories including some purpose built Trans-Am style high speed racers together with the highly tuned turbocharged cars proving so popular with younger followers of the sport. An amazing entry of over 50 cars will contest six races set down for the ever popular big-bangers.
The Muscle Cars will feature a combination of such names as Falcon, Commodore, Valiant Charger, Jaguar XJS, Mustang, Torana XU1, Camaro and Mercedes Benz. The Pre 65 Saloons will see a combination of historic cars including Anglias, Cortina GTS, Mustangs, Holden EHs and HDs, Humber 80s and Hillman Imps all bringing back memories of racing years gone by.
There will be three races for each category over the weekend with the major classes comprising between 25 and 50 cars facing the starter. The meeting is being promoted by Motorsport Auckland which comprises a consortium of the New Zealand International Grand Prix Association, the Auckland Car Club and the Northern Sports Car Club.
